Dauvé's Texts

Submitted by Craftwork on May 9, 2016

1) Eclipse and Re-Emergence of the Communist Movement (http://libcom.org/library/eclipse-re-emergence-communist-movement) ought to be updated to the 2015 PM Press edition (https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpvboc7zkukq5jf/Dauv%C3%A9%20with%20Martin%20-%20Eclipse%20and%20Re-emergence.pdf?n=396505654).

2) When Insurrections Die (http://libcom.org/library/when-insurrections-die) needs changing: there are two different versions of this text, the older one, published on libcom; and the newer, updated, one published by Endnotes- https://endnotes.org.uk/texts/endnotes_1/when-insurrections-die.xhtml - which is what ought to be put up.

3) I think it would be useful to add a note to the beginning of Fascism and Antifascism, pointing out to readers that When Insurrections Die is a reconception of that essay (https://libcom.org/library/fascism-anti-fascism-gilles-dauve-jean-barrot).

Hi, many thanks for pointing this out.

Can I check in terms of the first two texts, what has changed with the articles? Are they updated/improved translations, or did Dauvé alter and improve the text?

The PM Press edition has been significantly altered - all of the essays have been re-written, there are 3 new chapters, I think one of the original essays was split into two essays, the subheadings renamed, different wording, different conclusions, etc.

In When Insurrections Die the text has also been altered and re-arranged. For example, the last paragraph of the older edition on libcom and the newer one in Endnotes is different (i.e. different conclusion).

Sorry but just to clarify, do you mean the alterations were done by Dauvé himself?

In terms of this, we would like to have the updated version, however we don't have permission from PM Press to host this. If someone wanted to contact them to request permission, and they agree it please let us know, then we can do this.

In this case, if as in the case above the changes were made by Dauvé, then I agree we should update our version. You or another user can feel free to edit the version we currently have, and add a note at the bottom explaining the change (then this edit will be approved by an editor)

Yes, all changes were made by Dauvé himself, he even wrote a Postlude.

Thanks for the additional clarification. Like I said, anyone is free to update When Insurrections Die, and as for Eclipse… if someone gets permission from PM Press then that can be updated as well. Cheers for any assistance!

Alrighty, I've now submitted an updated version of When Insurrections Die - first time, so apologies for any errors there.

Edit: noticed some errors in formatting, and have just submitted a new update. Hopefully it'll look alright now.
