I’d just as soon buy a Che t-shirt.

Going to plug the Certain Days calendar here, available in the UK through Active Distribution. Also if you want a diary, I think Brighton ABC have sold out of their copies of the Bottled Wasp, but it seems to still be available through Pozor Distro. There's also another labor history calendar here. I remember there used to be a really nice Geordie radical diary called Wor Diary, no idea if they're making one for this year though.

What's wrong with calendars? I also like the fact there's an entire Wiki page on wearing Che t-shirts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara_in_fashion...

I guess I’m just a bit snooty about anarchism being made into a commodity.

Honestly Noah, nobody is going to be able to retire to the Bahamas by selling a few very niche wall calendars on Zazzle. I figure that if you're buying one them putting a few quid into the pocket of a comrade at the same time isn't a bad thing.

Ah, but where you make your error Fleur is that you failed to take into account that I’m a curmudgeonly old bastard that just chose to spend Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day on my own away from my partner and kids because, amongst other reasons, the commercialisation of fucking everything makes me want to jump off the Orwell bridge with my pockets full of rocks.

Unfortunately lots of ordinary people associate anarchism with Russell Brand or musicians like Arch Enemy, when they should be reading Bakunin or Kropotkin instead.

I guess that I just haven't attained your level of grinchiness yet. I had a very nice Xmas btw. A bunch of people with nowhere else to go came over and despite my extreme antisocial tendencies, I actually had a good time.

I don’t really see how the mugshots of a bunch weirdy beardies is going to do anything to rectify that.
Anyways, ignore me, I’m in a bad mood, I’d probably pick holes in the establishment of full communism if that happened tonight.

Full communism tonight? Fucking diabolical. Should have happened last week before I paid my phone bill :p

Anyways, I’ve actually already purchased a calendar - the BBC Countryfile one. No shit. Now that’s one for the ‘I’m officially middle class’ thread. And I’ll tell you this, it’s a whole lot better to look at than this bunch of plug uglies.

I wound up sleeping through the holidays myself, mostly through lack of choice and some antisocial tendencies. (Night shifts are a great way to avoid people and the general rush of capitalism/business as usual.) Don't think there's any escaping commodities in capitalism unless you don't buy anything. AK Press sells "anarchist commodities" in the form of books etc.

Of course, your point is entirely valid, but to win an argument with me using that point relies on me placing an expectation of moral consistency on myself, which I don’t. I reserve that expectation for others and closely scrutinise them for it!

Fraid the prices of the calendars are far too high.

Certain Days and Solidarity Forever are both around £10. Bottled Wasp is only £5. I suspect the various producers are only breaking even on costs.

The Zazzle calendar is just portraits with no quotes. This is at best a missed opportunity for propaganda, or at worst a cynical attempt to commodify the cult of personality.

The title “greatest anarchists 2019” suggests the latter.

Also it’s weird that the Socialist Party of Canada have subcontracted production of their calendar to an anarchocommunist, but I guess that’s where the talent is these days.
