Michael Gerard

Submitted by Battlescarred on March 23, 2020

I just heard this morning of the death of Michael Gerard on Sunday morning. An active member of the Leicester group of the Anarchist Workers Association in the 1970s, we was later a long standing member and past President of the Leicester Secular Society. I have good memories of him from the days of the AWA, and from occasional encounters since then at London Bookfairs and in Leicester. My condolences to Caroline and family.
Apparently he died of coronavirus:

Aye, he was a lovely man, kind, gentle and a true gent. Michael was one of the first people I met when I moved to Leicester around 20 years ago. He will be missed.

He was indeed, and it's a shame to hear about this. Like Serge, I remember as a kind and gentle man. He was involved in a lot of the attempts over the years to bring Leicester's various radicals together, always bringing warmth and humour.

Condolences to his family, friends and comrades.
