Please help us out by testing the new libcom theme

Cat testing libcom

Hello everyone! The new libcom theme which was paid for by those of you who donated to our GoFundMe is now largely on our test site and most of the issues we have spotted have been ironed out. But there are still some bugs, so we would really appreciate anyone helping us out by taking a detailed look at the test site, playing with it, posting some content and testing if everything works.

And if you spot any issues please let us know here in the comments. If people could try it out on different browsers and devices that would also be great. In particular if people could take a look on iPhones and on Mac with Safari that would be good.
The test site with the new theme is here: https://dev-54ta5gq-tqb6dex5mimpg.fr-3.platformsh.site/
There are still some bugs with it which we have spotted and will be fixed, but I'm sure we have missed some things.
In particular, the new theme shouldn't have blue links and blue features like the old theme, so if you spot any of them please let us know (NB the admin pages like submitting content etc haven't had the theme updated yet).
Also, on mobile some of the fonts are too big, and there is an issue with the logo in the menu, so this should be changed later.
We need any feedback as soon as possible. So please do take a look, have a play around and let us know if you spot any problems! Many thanks

Looks good. The red and black theme is definitely an improvement from the blue (the penguin also reminds me of the Linux mascot). Some things,

I noticed that when quoting a comment, the quoted content seems to show the raw html.

Also, it seems there is a hyperlink that says "logo" at the bottom of the page. I'm guessing this is either supposed to say "homepage" (since that's where it goes), or the logo next to it is supposed to be clickable, which it's not for me at least.

Two search buttons also appear for me whenever I search for something.

My only other stylistic suggestion (though others might disagree) would be to remove some of the buttons at the top so that you can get rid of the red divider. It sort of clashes with the black underline when hovering over the buttons. I would probably throw some of the buttons in the Menu thing like you have it now, though maybe keep the Recent Content button on the homepage.

Can you post a link to an example of this for us to check out?

Yes, this is a bug which is on the list to fix.

Thanks for this, where is this? Could you post a screenshot of what you mean using imgur or something?

Sorry, what page are you talking about here, which buttons and which dividers/underlines? A screenshot would be helpful.
Many thanks for the feedback!

It also seems to do the same on the current site.

As I said others might disagree. Definitely liking the new site though.

Right okay thanks for clarifying. That is unconnected to the theme and is the same at present. You only see that when making or editing comments. This will change when we are able to install a What You See Is What You Get text editor. This will be coming a bit later.

Thanks for clarifying. This is because the search box is always in the top bar. So if you are on the actual search page, then you will see 2 boxes. But the lower down search box does slightly overlap the results, which is something we will fix.

Thanks for clarifying, that is our main menu, which is the key way for navigating around the site. We are going to tweak this slightly over the next couple of weeks, but the basic functionality of it cannot change (it acts very differently on mobile devices).
But thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated, and very glad you like most of it!

Np, nice logo by the way. I like to think the penguin got the touch of red from battering the bourgeoisie with his flapper (never a sentence I thought I'd say) :).

Either that or it's been mauled by a sea leopard and is screaming in agony (sort of like the other explanation).

It's not technically bug but I tested searching Malatesta and Anarchism and the results were not ordered from newest to oldest

Also footnotes are not displayed correctly compare on libcom: https://libcom.org/article/experimental-anarchist-colonies-errico-malatesta
to the same article on the new site:
https://dev-54ta5gq-tqb6dex5mimpg.fr-3.platformsh.site/article/experimental-anarchist-colonies-errico-malatesta

I tested on windows 10 on google chrome

Yeah that's not related to the theme, that is the site search which is the same as this version. It sorts by relevancy, not date.

Thought so. I'm liking the new look especially bringing back the red look instead of the blue one. I tried cliking on all the stuff on the new page (one article, one donate etc.) and did not find any other bug than the footnote one.

Is the platformsh and fr-3 in the test link clue that it was designed by 3 French Platformist?

I think it would be wise if the footnotes were a tat smaller then the regular text. Also it gives a small text-overlap which is not so nice. Here is an example: https://dev-54ta5gq-tqb6dex5mimpg.fr-3.platformsh.site/article/anarchist-antimilitarism-and-myths-about-war-ukraine

Also I think it would be great if the application automatically adds a header 'Footnotes' if an article includes footnotes.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. That article you linked to doesn't actually have footnotes in, as recognised by the site. The author has just manually typed in footnotes like text. This is an article with formatted footnotes, so this is how they will appear on the site so please let us know what you think about this. Also could you please explain what you mean about text overlap and provide a screenshot?

Hi Steven, thanks for the reply. My mistake then. I think the new theme looks really good. It also seems to display well on my phone. Before I looked at my computer. There it showed the following: when hovering over the link of the footnotes the line that shows was going through the top of the text of the next line. I have 1920x1080 resolution on the screen, browser Firefox.

This is great, thanks very much. Taking a more detailed look, this is an issue with all hyperlink underlines in Firefox, so we will get that sorted.

I am possibly very dumb but on the old libcom to get posting rights you used to just post on the forum and wait for the admin to approve it - but there isn't any forum. How do I do it now? Would it be possible to get approval to publish pdfs and articles so our collective can publish our texts on here?

Hey BlackFlagSyndey - forums are here https://libcom.org/recent/discussions

You can start a new thread by going to the menu top right and clicking on "Submit new content" and then "Discussion".

I suspect a mod will see your post here though.

it's been a while since we set it up because we launched the new libcom ages ago now (this thread is just about the new theme, which is just cosmetic differences). But I'm pretty sure anyone who registers an account can post content now.
Just click submit content, and it should let you post articles? If not let us know.
