Obviously capitalism has does and will kill people everyday and entire cultures, modes of life and millions of human beings have and will continue to be destroyed. But clearly there is a historical difference between this and the threat posed to human existence and an entire 'round' of evolution that capitalism poses today.

Capitalism includes the labouring class, as well as the mercantile class. To say that "capitalism does and will kill" lets the latter, mass perpetrators of killing, off the hook.
The quote is badly translated. In the Hebrew mindset, the soul, one's essence, cannot be killed. Only one's existence can be extinguished. Perhaps the following is true?
