Imperialism with Chinese characteristics

Submitted by goff on December 29, 2024

Hello. Dunno if anyone still chats here these days. I’m familiar with the anti-Maoism in the library but was wondering if there was anything more contemporary, especially regarding empire building. Seen we’re doing the USSR is good actually again, trying to get ahead of the curve. Any ultra left Chinese groups worth following would be appreciated as well.

Hi goff.

The "China" tag is worth a look - https://libcom.org/tags/china

Chuǎng journal is probably the best ultra left resource. https://libcom.org/article/chuang-journal - they also have a book about the pandemic and more recent stuff on their site. https://chuangcn.org/blog/

In terms of empire building I am not sure - there is this article by Aufheben on Obama's pivot to China (2016) and a Chuǎng article and Aufheben response in issue 24 (p29 onwards - 2017). Neither of those is especially new.

Fuck, China was an obvious tag I missed. Thank you. I saw this which is funny, it’s like Maoist detournement of the CCP, https://www.removepaywall.com/search?url=https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/28/world/asia/china-maoists-xi-protests.html

Chuang might be of interest; I would place them to the left of Maoists, and definitely to the left of the Chinese Communist Party (i.e. after the Deng-era reforms)

Thanks adri. I’m only interested in Maoism against the CCP ala the POUM versus Russia. Imagine there’s going to be some leftfield permutations in China soon, based on praxis rather than theory.
