Humanitarian Zone in Gaza

Are we witnessing a new form/model of capitalism being created in Gaza? The complete demarcation between a proletarian class in the Humanitarian Zone of former Rafah and the mercantile class of Gaza City, a militarised buffer in northern Gaza, and a tourist Riviera along its coastline.

Of the 4.5 million years of human history, this aspect of inhuman history, the concentration death camp, appears new to us.

If it transpires to happen, the division of a whole population into distinct zones, entirely planned by the state, on the basis of social class—working class and mercantile class—this will be a new model of capitalism. Remember, when concentration/death camps were established by the National Socialists in Germany, the Jewish bourgeoisie were enabled to flee Germany and continue doing business elsewhere. Who could afford to run did run; those that could not had to stay.

The other possibility is that the new Humanitarian Zone will serve as a means of carrying out the "genocide" of the whole working class of Gaza, and latterly of the Palestinian West Bank. This possibility denies the usefulness of a huge pool of labour power to the political economy of the State of Israel.

In either case, the dream of the Palestinian grande bourgeoisie is in tatters:

We will need an industrial sector capable of absorbing 6,000 workers, and must concentrate on industries with high quality. We must concentrate on using local raw materials, and take note of the Japanese way of rapid production.

Dr Mahmoud Abu AI-Rab, associate economics professor at An-Najah University; quoted in Palestine Post, #57, November 1991.

This disarray is in large part due to the brainchild of the State of Israel, Hamas—past, present and future police force of the Gazan working class, and major tool of its division.

While that is true for some people, plenty of wealthy Jewish people were also murdered in the concentration camps.
In terms of the general point, as Alf says, concentration camps are nothing new. They have been used in plenty of places like Spanish colonial Cuba, British colonial Kenya, Nazi Germany, the United States and Canada for people of Japanese descent, et cetera.

Yes, it is. Someone explained that you have to pause after pressing "Save". If you press "Save" again before the post shows it duplicates it. In this case in triplicate.

Back to the topic, it appears that the State of Israel does plan to incorporate Gaza into a Greater Israel, without any meaningful objections by other capitalist powers.

What this means for the working class of the region and beyond is open for discussion.
