"Weltkrise – Weltwende. Kurs auf den Staatskapitalismus", Carl Steuermann (Otto Rühle), 1931

Submitted by Shahram on June 7, 2026

This book is mentioned in a footnote by Gilles Dauvé:
"In 1932, under the name Carl Steuermann, Rühle published a book (available in French, not in English) whose title translates as 'World Crisis; or, Towards State Capitalism.'
As far as I can determine, the book was written in German and published in 1931, but its title is very similar to the one Gilles mentioned.
In any case, I was hoping someone knows more about this — whether it has been unofficially translated into English and whether the book might be available online.

I happen to own a German original copy, so far as I can tell its not online in any language. translating it is beyond my skills at the moment, so I'm open to ideas for digitising my copy.

Hi Reddebrek - how many pages is the book? Is it simply a question of finding someone who would be able to scan it in?

It's numbered 255 pages I'm trying to find someone capable of scanning whole books, preferably page by page with OCR capabilities, that should make translating it easier.

I have both German and French editions. Google already scanned the German edition. Needless to say it no longer seems to be available on Google books but I have a copy of their PDF. I've scanned the French version and created a PDF of that. Here's a temporary link to a zip file with both versions in it.

The French edition was titled 'La Crise Mondial' and was published by Gallimard in April 1932.
There are a couple of excerpts online in French at La Bataille socialiste blog.

Crise économique - extrait (Rühle, 1931)

1931 La suppression de la crise

The second excerpt is the last few pages.
