Summary and links to news stories of workers' struggles around East Asia during August 2012 and related resources. The most important stories appear on my Twitter feed as soon as I find them: http://twitter.com/spartacusnews.

Submitted by Spartacus on September 8, 2012

This month there has been news from Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Starting this month I have also started adding information about struggles outside of East Asia that I come across - I haven't filtered these as much or attempted to refine them into categories as I have started to do with the ones in the summary, but they might be a starting point for others. Though the design of the page is still pretty basic, you can view them here. If anyone would like to compile similar summaries for other regions using that website, get in touch. It is still very much in development though...

Hi Spartacus,

I'm trying to adapt a world protest map with limited news feeds into a world protest map that includes all kind of labour protests and occupy protests, etc, so I was looking at your blog here with all the great detailed links to Asian protests, etc.

The maps I link to currently from my website (rageuniversity.org) are these:

Best map (in my opinion)which I want to improve:

http://worldatprotest.com/

Occupy maps:

http://map.occupy.net/

http://tiles.mapbox.com/occupy/map/occupy-global-lines

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/interactive/2011/oct/18/occupy-protests-map-world

China Protest Maps (google maps with short URLs):

http://is.gd/ZI9X3K
http://is.gd/lhJyGN
http://is.gd/ihKf2D

So, maybe we could work out a way using your news links and feeds via the anmap program at: http://www.ammap.com/

to develop this? Alternatively using Google Maps.

What do you think? Billy
