A reported 500 march from the new BP site at Saltend to the Hull city centre over job losses
There was support shown by workers of North Lincolnshire refineries Lindsay and ConocoPhillips, Pembroke power station in Wales and Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottinghamshire. The march ended with addresses from union representives.

Cheers for this update.. just giving it a bump really as it's getting lost under all the March 26th stuff.. to me, this is an even more important part of the anti-cuts movement than a one-off demo..

300 were picketing outside
300 were picketing outside the site yesterday. A one day stoppage has been called for tomorrow countrywide in the construction industry. As is the trend for wildcats, this obviously have a sizable union backing but they've not made the call themselves.

Couldn't find owt on news of the stoppage so I'm assuming it never came to fruition. Another picket today with 30 workers sitting in the road to block the traffic for an hour and a half.

Video from today's picket where there was a 2 hour stoppage of traffic during rush hour. BP are having their annual general meeting in London on Thursday which some of the striking workers are coming down for.

Article about today's events. I'll write it up when I have a bit of time. There's a 48 hour break called by the GMB to have talks with Vivergo and the police have said there'll be no more traffic hold ups.
BP's AGM is tomorrow, at London EXCEL Centre, Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway, London E16 from 10:30.

The comments on that article are pretty anti-worker for the most part. I saw plenty of similar comments on a local website when I was on strike last year. Sadly a lot of the working class seems absolutely filled with resentiment.

Yeah, but I'd say that was more down to the fact that the sort of people leaving comments on the local paper's website are local slobbering-at-the-mouth conservatives who only read the news to confirm their view that the world is all going pot/isn't like it was at X point in the past.. a lot of normal people who hold sensible views (not even necessarily pro but more "well, I'm sure the workers have a point but it is annoying to be in traffic..") aren't gonna waste their time with that sort of shit..
Same way youtube comments are always really racist/people bitching I think..

There's been mixed reaction
There's been mixed reaction to the payment settlement offered by Vivergo, with 380 odd workers accepting a £1.2 million deal to cover unpaid wages but the union saying no to it, with apparently 200 wanting job, not financial security. Considering this concerns nearly 400 workers in total, I wonder what the actual story is.
