Eventually posts from the libcom blog will appear on the frontpage so people not checking the blogs on a regular basis wont miss out ;)

Hey, since I got a blog I noticed a couple new features. Some of them are for sure new, others I might have just not noticed.

When posting something to the blog or library there's an option for 'feature'. What does this mean? I unclicked it, because I didn't know what it did and I didn't wanna do something I didn't mean to. Same thing with the posting twitter thing.

I noticed that on the tags, the header can be edited. But how can they be added? For instance, the stuff I've been contributing from Free Flowing. I'd like to make a header with a pic of one of the papers and a short description header. There's other stuff I've contributed that don't have tag headers that I'd like to make.

That's all I can think of now.

jef costello

13 years 11 months ago

In reply to by libcom.org

Submitted by jef costello on October 27, 2010

the 'feature' option features the story, which means it is put onto the front page as one of the three items in the middle at the top. That way it will show up better, so for samotnaf's blog for example, it would be worth featuring them, but for some of the other blogs, say the film review one, they would still have a front page link under the blogs heading but they wouldn't be featured.

If you want to add a tag then you just type it into the 'tags' box. In general contributors are encouraged to use existing tags as otherwise they become unwieldy and much less useful (in the past I've spent hours cleaning up the tags and others have spent even more time on it.). Just type in Free Flowing in the authors, people and groups tag box and it will create the new tag when you publish the article. Then all you need to do is open the tag through the link in the article and edit it as appropriate.

Posting to twitter is just automatically putting a the title and a link to the new article onto the libcom twitter feed so you might as well do that.

Hope that helps.

Submitted by Spassmaschine on October 27, 2010

Then all you need to do is open the tag through the link in the article and edit it as appropriate.

I think what Dead End is talking about is the intros at the start of some tags. These can be created by going 'Submit content' -> 'Intro' then filling in only the 'title' and 'introduction' boxes, maybe uploading an image, and filling in only the tag or author that you want it to be the intro to. After that it should appear at the top of the relevant tag and be editable.

hi, what is the story about? (So we can tell you are not a spammer)

blog posts are only for authorised libcom bloggers, so to get a blog you need to let us know what you will be blogging about, how often you will post etc. We are very happy however to have one-off posts in the news, library or history sections which any confirmed non-spammer can have.

Hello, could I have an blog here? I blog already on my own sites, mostly in Dutch (the country I live is the Netherlands), on all kind of things, from Arab Spring to anarchist ideas, Dutch and international class struggle. To give you an Idea, I have an English-language blog as well (that has been silent for ages): http://peterstorm.wordpress.com . Of course, when I blog on Libcom, I may also cross-post/ repost, on my other sites, if there is no objection.

One of the reasons I like to blog here as well is that I can get and give more, and more focused, feedback o what I am thinking from fellow Libcom-thinkers, be a part of ongoing international debates, thn when I only write in Dutch (or on that English-language blog that nobody reads: ) )

I wrtite a lot on my Dutch blog, several times a week. I think if I write economically (translate/ rework my Dutch blg pieces, for instance), I can manage one blog piece a week here, maybe more, and sometimes less; )

Hoping to hear from you:) Salud!

hmm quick question that could squash headaches. is there a difference between requesting content posting rights to the library and via blog? because as far as i know i've always had library posting privileges, are new users often not getting those? i could be fine with just occasionally posting stuff to the library instead.

if there is any general blogging guidelines etc too definitely would be down to know what they are, etc.

Steven.

11 years 10 months ago

In reply to by libcom.org

Yes there is a difference. Anyone who isn't a spammer can post to the library, whereas bloggers we need to approve them individually. Although we don't have to agree with everything they say.

So we could set you up as a blogger - the only guideline would be that we would expect you to post something every now and again. So if you wanted to post stuff on a semiregular basis we can set you up as a blogger

This is the proposed intro:

Marx, Engels and Luxemburg were all keen to return to the egalitarian relations of primitive communism, at a higher level. But how does the egalitarianism of early human societies connect up with Marxism’s prime focus on the rise and decline of capitalism?

As capitalism continues to disintegrate, this article looks at the egalitarian origins of money in ancient Greece for clues as to how we might transcend the whole money system

For clarity here is the post that I attempted

Evening all. As a new visitor to this sight I would be interested in peoples views on the following questions:

Would a non member of the working class be welcome to join the Anarchist Federation?
How can non working class people help the revolution?
Would the ruling class cease to be an ememy once an Anarchist state is established?
How are working class and ruling class defined and is it possible to be neither?

Forgive me if these questions are answered elsewhere on the site but I feel some personal answers would be more informative and give me a better 'feel' for the positions people take.

hi, is your article in favour of market socialism, or against? (You've been approved BTW)

Well it's sympathetic but the proposal claims market socialism will eliminate profit and I claim it doesn't.

Hi -
I wanted to know if I could post up a discussion article on Keynes and Military Keynesianism, I presume in the "theory" section. It should go something like this:
In the New Republic, July 1940, Keynes wrote: “It is, it seems, politically impossible for a capitalist democracy to organise expenditure on the scale necessary to make the grand experiment which would prove my case – except in war conditions…If the United States takes seriously the material and economic side of the defence of civilisation and steels itself to a vast dissipation of resources in the preparation of arms, it will learn its strength – and learn it as it can never learn it otherwise; learn a lesson that can be turned to account afterwards to reconstruct a world which will understand the first principles governing the production of wealth…War preparation, so far from requiring a sacrifice, will be the stimulus, which neither victory nor defeat of the New Deal could give you to greater individual consumption and a higher standard of life…”
Given that the explicit ideology of many of the current struggles want to return to some kind of Keynesian welfare state, it seems important to note that in the past capitalism developed such a form, or the promise of it, as a method of fighting World War ll (as well as a method of co-opting the potentially dangerous class struggle that many thought would arise out of such a war, just as it had previously at the end of World War l).
In current circumstances such a class war may well arise before such a war and such a war, though almost certainly far more destructive than WWll, could well attempt to persuade the working class to accept it on the basis of an apparent welfare state pot of gold which would be found at the end of it, which sections of capital, or even those who wish to become a future ruling class, would give as the aim of such a conflict. Of course, other rationales might be given - such as a Malthusian need to cut down over-population, but Keynesianism seems like it could make some kind of comeback.
Or is this without any material basis whatsoever? Any thoughts?

I sent an e-mail already, but found this thread and thought I would post here as well. I have posted articles in the past, and don't remember getting any permission, but maybe this is an issue this time around. In any case, I was trying to post an article of mine (in the library) and I was unable to see a preview, so I just stopped there. It would just go to libcom.org/node when I clicked on the full preview title. Is this due to a lack of permission, or is this some other issue?

Hey, I'd like to post this blog related to an audio interview on uprisings in Slovenia with an anarchist activist there:

from The Final Straw

Interview with Ramona, an anarchist activist in Slovenia and member of the Federation for Anarchist Organizing. She speaks about the uprisings which have been happening in that country since November, 2012 in reaction to widespread political corruption and police surveillance. Among other topics, we touch on the conditions leading up to these ongoing uprisings, a brief history of anarchist organizing in Slovenia, and the upcoming Balkan Anarchist Bookfair, which will take place in Ljubljana this May.

To keep yourself informed on this situation, go to the FAO website at
www.a-federacija.org/english for english content.

The FAO is also a member of the International of Anarchist Federations (IAF). More info on that project can be found at http://i-f-a.org/

We also bring you an anarchist black metal project Hesperian Death Horse, which hails from Croatia, and the band Aylwin from California.
Enjoy.

The full playlist for the show can be found here

This show will stream from 4/8 through 4/14/13 at AshevilleFM, and will be podcasted from radio4all.net.

No problem. So if this happens just post a quick comment so that an editor can fix it. Cheers!

Hi, glad to finally be a part of Libcom. I have written a piece called What Do We Mean When We Say 'Work?':A Response to Bob Black's The Abolition of Work. It looks at the Black's pamphlet from a Red and Black perspective and talks about how when we say work we mean very different things from situation to situation. This applies to Marx's differentiation of alienation under capitalism but the semantics and the nature of power in the situation goes beyond what Marx wrote (it's also not that long of a piece).
I have written for the Guardian U.K., and Tidal: Occupy Theory, among others.

I'll gladly send you my work if you want.

Sorry still couldn't do it so posted it under the World War I further reading guide. Could some kind, more competent person post it as a separate post thanks!

hi, actually I hadn't approved you yet as you didn't answer my question and from your first post I couldn't tell if you were a spammer or not.

You should now be able to post it by going to the main "further reading guides" page and clicking "add child page". If you could give a short introduction explaining what each text was about that would be great.

I would also suggest adding James Heartfield's "unpatriotic history of World War II"

now, I've just read the first part of that then skimmed the rest, and from what I saw it doesn't look like the kind of article we would want. For starters it seems to downplay the transphobic comments from Suzanne Moore and the appalling ones from Julie Burchill, and have a go at those who criticise them as "twitter trolls".

If someone who has the time to read it through fully could let us know what they think that would be great

As the death toll reaches 100,000 in Syria all sides and their allies are pouring arms into the fire and the US industrial/war machine is desperate to start the bombing. The final logic of crisis capitalism is permanent spreading WAR. Now may be our last chance to protest...... etc

Hi,
I would like to post a text entitled "Towards a Critique of the Democratic Form"
This was a discussion text within the Internationalist Perspectives group, not the official position of the IP. It is still a draft, but a complete text. The text is both historical and theoretical within a Marxist framework, referencing Pashukanis and Sohn-Rethel linking democracy to the value-form. The text suggest that democracy is NOT a path towards collective liberation. I would be very interested in reactions and critiques.
However, I don't see how to attach the text for your review.

hey, that's brilliant, thanks! You now have the requisite permissions to edit the article and add the better text and PDF attachment. Then an editor will approve the revision.

Thanks!

Hi, I would like to start a blog about China, with some other people already on libcom having the possibility to post on that blog, too (so it is a group blog). The name we want to use is "nao", which stands for "vent anger", "noise" or "unrest". Contentwise it will include info on struggles, comments on social developments, gender issues, migration etc. Not sure you need more information at this point. ye

An admin will give you the necessary permissions and then it's just to go ahead. They'll likely tell you here or PM you if they find the content you post to be relevant to the site.

ye, I believe someone has been in touch but yes you can have a blog. Just register a username called nao and we will give permissions.

For communism, yes, you will have posting permissions within the next 5 min.

Sal, sorry but your writing is not the sort of thing we are after. Please feel free to stick around and contribute to the discussions!

Hi!

This is Monica from the Miami IWW, I would like to submit an article (this would be my first one on Lib).
It's a review on "La Ideologia Anarquista" by Angel Cappelletti, the book is in Spanish, so is my review (I hope that is ok?). Many people ask what's a good text in Spanish for people who want to learn about Anarchism, and I wanted to write a quick overview about Cappelletti's book which is great for that and basically it touches on the most traditional questions about anarchism (Power, the state, classic contributers, etc.)

If it needs to get approved I could e-mail it to you, I'm assuming to: [email protected]

Thank you kindly,
=)

Hi, I would like to post a fantastic essay I transcribed from an original source by one of the original Home Colonists, who lived for 20 years in Washington states longest running anarchist colony. Somewhere in the authors beautiful words we see that another world is possible, even in the midst of religious dogma, capitalism and patriotism.

I've run the 64mb PDF of Sam Dolgoff's The Anarchist Collectives through software and, in addition to making each page its separate page, decreased the size to 4 mb without any loss in quality. I would like to edit this into the existing library entry, which requires that I have content posting rights.
