For the bourgeois historians, the October Revolution is thought to be a tragedy that set back the achievements of the “democratic” February Revolution, and allowed the Bolsheviks to wreak havoc on their citizens and the world. For the Stalinists, the events of 1917 paved the way for the birth of the USSR, which they point to as a prototypical example of “socialism in one country”. In reality, the February and October Revolutions were both part of the same proletarian revolution.

Well worth buying and reading
Well worth buying and reading especially if you are interested in the various different tendencies or factions of both the RSDLP (beyond a straight Bolshevik/Menshevik) and the peasant based SR's plus a critical approach to the different Left Communist tendencies past and present. Still not sure if doesn't overestimate its understanding of the level of 'communist' as opposed to just 'democratic' politics amongst the minority industrial working class at that time even if there is a practical connection between the two? Would be good to see some more critical reviews/discussion when it's available online later here.
