The Hour of Power - 13th January 2013

Submitted by Ramona on July 1, 2013

Nina Power discusses the problem of political optimism/pessimism. Why do movements and individuals suffer such oscillations of temperament when it comes to political analysis and action? Why does it feel that 'the movement' is either in a state of over-optimistic euphoria or stuck in a nihilistic, depressive rut? Nina looks at the work of Sara Ahmed, Lauren Berlant and recent queer theoretical discussions of affect to try to come to some conclusions about the state of our states.
