Humberside construction workers in Vivergo Fuels blockade

Workers at joint BP project involved in early morning wildcat action against job losses

In Saltend, Hull, 400 construction workers blockaded the entrance to a biofuel plant from 6.00am in response to 15 redundancies and management reneging on a redundancy package. Traffic was brought to a standstill in the surrounding East Hull and Holderness areas before being forced to turn back. The blockade came to a close at 9.30am.

There are fears as the plant grows nearer to completition that jobs will be thinned out, with no alternative work. A vote has been passed for further action.
