The anarchist collectives: workers' self-management in the Spanish revolution 1936-1939 - Sam Dolgoff

This was the first book in English that is devoted to the experiments in workers’ self-management, both urban and rural, which constituted one of the most remarkable social revolutions in modern history. Libertarian communism was truly the creation of workers and peasants—a “spontaneous” creation, for which the groundwork had been laid by decades of struggle and education, experiment and thought.

I always thought Freedom Press' "Collective in the Spanish Revolution" predated Dolgoff. Apparently Dolgoff's was in 1974 and the Leval in 1976 (Spanish Revolution anniversary year) http://libcom.org/library/collectives-spanish-revolution-gaston-leval

Both books are special and should be read by those interested in the constructive phases of the revolution.

Total sidebar, I remember how pissed Dolgoff was with Bookchin (even tho he wrote the intro). Sam felt, after his book was published, that Bookchin was sorta using him. Bookchin later went on to write "The Spanish Anarchists: The Heroic Years 1868-1936"
which was critical of the CNT and anarcho-syndicalism. After that, there was no love loss between the two.
