The issue of the digital revolution and artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the most complex and sensitive questions confronting humanity today. These technologies have left a direct and profound impact on human consciousness, modes of thinking, the shaping of public opinion, and even the manipulation of latent desires and inclinations. Moreover, they have produced structural effects on social life, at both psychological and sociological levels, as well as on the very nature of class struggle.
At present, the digital revolution and new media, under the conditions of global capitalist hegemony, are being employed as effective tools for producing the “user-consumer” and reinforcing a culture of consumption. This process stands in contradiction to the foundations of justice, equality, and the core values of leftist thought. Through the dissemination of “false consciousness” and the legitimization of superficial lifestyles and temporary pleasures, the capitalist system seeks to transform everything into a commodity and subordinate it to the service of giant corporations.
In this context, and regrettably, it must be acknowledged that the left in general, and in Kurdistan in particular, has largely left this vital field vacant for capitalist, liberal, and conservative forces. As a result, leftist forces are not only lagging behind in this arena, but also face the risk of complete marginalization if they do not move quickly to address this situation.
Within this framework, the study by comrade Rezgar Akrawi entitled:
Capitalist Artificial Intelligence: Challenges for the Left and Possible Alternatives
constitutes an important theoretical reference for understanding this reality and for formulating a scientific roadmap for a digital leftist project.
Given the importance of this topic, the Media Office of the Kurdistan Communist Party held a special conference earlier this week under the title:
Toward Change and the Strengthening of Leftist Digital Media.
This step represents an initial move toward raising a set of urgent requirements, particularly the reform of visions and working mechanisms, the renewal of the style and content of political discourse, and the presentation of realistic solutions to societal crises through digital platforms.
The success of this project is impossible without engaging the energies of youth, developing human capacities, and using a simple and contemporary language to convey messages. Leftist media must serve as a bridge for communication with the masses, rather than merely a tool for issuing statements. It is important to emphasize that these transformations do not mean surrendering to the virtual world or dissolving into social media networks; rather, they represent a new path for engaging with a changing reality and strengthening struggle within the arenas of class conflict.
This issue forms an inseparable part of the left’s efforts toward renewal, reform, and openness, with the aim of assuming greater political and social responsibility in an era in which capitalism has turned everything into a commodity.
In conclusion, change and the presentation of alternatives in our current reality should not be limited to slogans. They are instead a long-term process that requires patience, sustained effort, and the identification and treatment of weaknesses—a path that we must begin courageously from within ourselves.
