Union members from other cities met with some of the workers Saturday afternoon. The local workers want better working conditions, and have staged two job actions in the last two weeks.

The workers from elsewhere said the show of solidarity is to show the city that workers don't plan to give up their fight.

"As North Carolina cities continue to grow and prosper, they're doing so on the backs of the public service worker and we're here to show support for them," said Charlotte utility worker Tim Lackey.

Some of the workers at Saturday's meeting plan to picket City Hall on Tuesday. In the meantime, City Manager Russell Allen said he would continue to hold regular meetings with the sanitation workers.
