If you don't want to get banned as a spammer, just don't add that URL to every post you're making. Seems like you just want to get traffic to your site.

Why don't you put a link to your site in your profile.
And if you want to link to your site then try to link to relevant content from the site rather than just spamming the front page.

You’ll also find the “Would You?” posts in the Rants section, a series of posts in which you can vote on whether or not you would sleep with the woman in question, ladies can participate in this as well… if you think she’s fine, let it be known. The results of the polls will (hopefully) allow me to state “I told ya so!” to my girlfriend, due to the fact that every woman I list is considered “unattractive” in her standards.

A) I would like traffic to the site, go figure? The link sits under my name everywhere I post, like a signature on a forum. I'm not saying "Hey hey, go here!" I find it strange that the only place that bans it is an anarchist forum..... ironic isn't it?

B) I also find it very humorous that you quoted that one part from the entire blog Jef with one F. That is actually .0000001% of what is on the blog. Why do have things like that on my site? Well it was explained in the part that you failed to quote. Because my life isn't lived in tunnel-vision. Although I am an anarchist who puts his opinion out there daily, I also like women and thought it would be a good way to prove my point to my girl in a humorous way, through a poll on a website to get some backup lol. Rather ironic again that like the media you have chosen to pull out half the information in order to make me look foul, I feel awfully Hugo Chavez right about now. No worries though, if Jef hadn't just quoted a tiny piece of an 'About' section, you would also read in that section:

I find that the biggest problem within the anarchist community nowadays is that for a belief based on complete freedom and individuality, there sure are a lot of rules as to what is and isn’t anarchistic.

Hit the nail on the head, no?

It honestly disappoints me. Its not about the link, I would post regardless, I think what is the most disappointing is the fact that more rules and control exist here than any other forum I would write on, even on a music forum I will run across people with a link in the footer of their posts. These aren't people saying "Hey click here for the best site in the world", its just people putting themselves out there and giving people an option if they liked what that person had to say.

Its the control issue here, I don't need moderation. My life is moderated. In my opinion nothing I did was wrong yet I was "scolded" for it.... guess I'll have to read the "Rules & Guidelines" next time I post....

I do not believe that is about no rules and total individual freedom, but it definitely allows for more freedom, which hasn't been evident here. I will still post, its no biggie at all, I just hate being censored when there was no maliciousness behind it.... Im sure you could understand?

While I don't think there was any maliciousness behind you posting those links, it just looked suspiciously like spam. @ Angry, Well if someone bans you from an internet site, it is not censorship. It just means that whoever are running the site don't find the poster's contribution worthwhile for whatever reasons. Now censorship happens when the state decides that a particular viewpoints or person(s) (opinions) cannot be expressed. Or when a multi-media comglomorate decides to actively use its influence to silenced stories. So please don't go around crying censorship when a site bans you, as you are just perpetuating this confusion. The internet means it is pretty hard to surpress opinions, as there are thousands of forums to post on. Indeed you, yourself run a site where you express your views, so calling being banned, moderated or having a code of conduct for posting censorship is ridiculous.
Anyways, welcome the broads and happy posting. :D

Thank you for the lesson Mr.Cortez, happy to hear what your definition of censorship is. Although I beg to differ. Censorship is acted out by a Censor. A Censor is defined in a dictionary as:

cen·sor
   /ˈsɛnsər/
–noun
1.
an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.
2.
any person who supervises the manners or morality of others.

So you see, no matter how you look at it, it is censorship. That doesn't mean I don't agree with it. If I was posting porn on a Disney forum I'd certainly expect to be censored. My only question was, by posting a link to my blog which is written by an anarchist that consists of what I like to think of as relevant material, on a site which is made up of largely anarchist discussion... was my morality in that action worthy of censorship?

Regardless, Khawaga explained his reasoning, there has been a lot of spam going on here so I can see how it can be difficult to weed out the good from the bad. I choose not to make his life harder as I can see his point of view, so after realizing I had a choice that worked well for the both of us, I put the link in my profile.... if that is not proof that anarchism can work, I don't know what is ;)

P.S. I was very happy when posting :) lol

err.... neither of those two definitions really support your view? I see your argument, but to use censorship in such a loose fashion is to pretty much render the word useless. Glad to see you realise that making admins and mods lives harder is counter productive. I will check out your site.

The first definition clearly concerns a government agent, while the second is so vague to be rendered meaningless (and probably concerns "censor" as an epitaph rather than an actual meaningful definition).

I know its difficult for a socially retarded fuck-up like you to even conceptualize that there are people outside of the Internet, but not everyone who is female and posts on this site is me. Seriously, that person is obviously not a bot. Perhaps they should have been given a warning that posting spammy links at the ends of their posts isn't allowed, rather than just banning them without any discussion? But way to go libcom in addressing the sausage-fest that this site is by banning what new female posters sign up!

Don't try and pretend that you were banned for sexism.
That person does not seem like a bot but they are spamming links to a thesis site and when the link was removed from the post and replaced with SPAM they replaced it. They are spamming even if their posts seems legit. I checked that person's profile to ensure it wasn't copied and pasted because that has happened before. Although the profile was not a bot as far as I know, it is clearly a spammer and was banned.

It's pretty sad news to hear about this great man. A man with such a great talent in poetry has now gone, this feels like a nightmare. haha, a spammer offering hints on captcha improvement. Obviously this one got around the captcha by being human. Maybe they use humans to break the captcha, then turn the account over to a computer to allow mass spam posting?

I remember reading about a site that showed you porn pictures in exchange for solving captchas and used that to spam.
I think that it seems a bit labour intensive to open up accounts this way unless you're relying on people either not cleaning up or hitting semi-abandoned websites.

Hi

I am not sure if this is the correct place to notify you for the removal of a libellous, offensive, insulting and defamatory post from your forum. If it is not then please let me know how to notify the forum moderators for the post below:

http://libcom.org/forums/current-affairs/working-definition-of-a-nonce?page=1

The post is on page 2 Post #58 and the poster is called "GoldenGirl".

The post is completely groundless post and has no foundation what so ever. If you require the history and documented evidence about the real name and the motives of the poster "goldengirl", then please email me offline.

I don't want to post in the thread, as the post is so completely nonsensical that is not worth expanding or extrapolating on.

Kind regards

Okay, this may sound crazy, but I just realized something: it's clear that the spam-bots we've been dealing with for the past few months if not years aren't really bots, but people paid to do this. How about we develop a strategy to lure them into organizing for better wages and conditions, or at least into discussing their wages and conditions with us?

I for one don't like blacks and would quite happily class them as a sub species. Does this make mean I am not an anarchist. I believe in equality and freedom for all other races. It is just that I don't see black as being the same species as myself.

jesuithitsquad: Don't know if you've got this facility, but if i click on the name of a spammer, their profile comes up and there's a box saying "ban as spammer" on it, which you click on and then confirm. Doesn't stop the previous posts obviously, but prevents future ones. But buffy seems to like vampirising this site and changes his/her name slightly so as to be able to return from the dead.

Hadn't realised quite how much buffy had contaminated the site. Any chance of regular posters in future being given the means to clear up any future disaster, other than just banning the spammer? It's a massive job for admin to go through countless of threads to sort it all out, and if this happens again, I'd guess they could use some help from those with time on their hands.

The only way to let regular posters delete spam posts would be to give them mod privileges. I'm not sure of the chances of that happening, or even if it's a good idea.
If you can ban spammers then that's great and posting the name of the spammer in this thread with a link to their profile (rather than a post) With a link to the profile we can pull up their posts and delete them reasonably quickly. If you report individual posts then that speeds up deletion as well.

I think that having the CAPTCHA when users log in is pointless, as a spammer will only log in once anyway, while regular users have to deal with the hassle. Is there any way of making the registration process itself arduous so that it will become less cost-effective? Say have a quiz or something?

What about adding a field to the registration form, asking for a brief presentation and the reasons why one would like to joint libcom.org? In combination with moderating the registration instead of letting it pass automatically, this would probably block most spammers, as they will not have an adaquate answer to the question.

Say have a quiz or something?

How about:
1. Lenin was a State capitalist scumbag. True or False? (everyone apart from the unmentionables knows the correct answer to that one).
2. Complete the following well-known saying: "Humanity will only be happy when the last capitalist is hung by the guts of the last_________________" (correct answer "spammer").
3. Rearrange the following into the first part of the first sentence of a well-known book: "The capitalist commodities of wealth in which the immense production of method announces itself, prevails as an accumulation of societies."
4. Fill the gaps: "In______________where _________ _____________of ___________prevail, all of _________ _________ itself as an __________ ________________ of _________________"
5 Who said, "Mankind has grown strong through struggle"?
(a)Hitler.
(b)Trotsky.
(c)Mao.
(d)Che Guevara.

That should sort the chaff from the wheat, no?
