Kim Jong Il - big mad communist or what?

So that Kim Jong Il is dead. The 'Supreme Leader' is dead.

What a fucking dickhead. Presiding over one of the biggest famines since Ethiopia, having millions of people living in the abject misery while he heads the 'world's first hereditary communist' state. It's revolting to have communism associated with such a regime, which bore no resemblance to any sort of communism we want. I expect to hear 'and that's why communism will never work' at least a few times this week.

He clamped down on all media, banning outside communication, and fixing all TVs to state-authorised channels - with regular check-ups that TVs are not tampered with. All the while possessing 20,000 videos and DVDs himself apparently! He really really liked Rambo, Friday the 13th and Godzilla.

Other interesting facts were:
He is an 'internet expert'.
He was THE BEST AT FILMS
He was also an EXPERT AT GOLF.
He had a signed basketball from Michael Jordan

Here's the new 'great leader', troll-like son Kim Jong Un, looking at things..

as far as I know, even most eastern european diplomats who served during the 80ies at the embassies in their "sister country" generally regarded the DPRK as a country governed by some nationalistic-konfuzian weirdos

How dare you trash talk the glorious leader of the "tiny but defiant Korean people"!

Correction: that's "Dear Leader" of the workers' paradise of North Korea.

Perhaps I was hasty in my early assessment.

Some material by Marx, Engels and Lenin circulates in North Korea, and the Marxist dictum, “Religion is the opium of the masses” is universally known. But according to a Russian study in 1995, “the works by Marx, Engels, and Lenin are not only excluded from the standard [school] curriculum, but are generally forbidden for lay readers. Almost all the classical works of Marxism-Leninism, as well as foreign works on the Marxist (that is, other than [Juche]) philosophy are kept in special depositories, along with other kinds of subversive literature. Such works are accessible only to specialists with special permits.” (One thinks of the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages restricting Bible reading to the trusted clergy, and discouraging it among the masses.)

I love the golfing madness.

He also, iirc, had the largest private movie collection in the world and was the single largest private purchaser of Hennessey in the world (although I believe alcohol is banned in NK...)
