Real Gold not Fools

Arc de Triomphe

A short poem written against the background of middle class opposition to Brexit and the working class Yellow Vest movement.

Submitted by westartfromhere on February 12, 2024

While Middle England marched like sheep

On London streets not paved with gold;

And Little England watch and peep

Befuddled ‘ticians arrange their keep:

In Lyon, Lille and La Rochelle,

In Paris, Nice, Toulouse le trek,

La France of blazon Yellow tells

A people down but not yet felled.
