Does anyone know what happened to the Anarchist Black Cat forum? It's been down for weeks. I found the quality of discussion there as good as here, the only thing is it was much less active. But still active enough that I don't see why it would be shut down. Anybody know what's going on and if or when it will be coming back up?
The reason it is down is
The reason it is down is because of hackers. It was being redirected to a Russian porn site if you looked at it via Safari. I don't know why its taking them so long to get it back up again.
go figure

And how did it all end?

It never re-emerged, is what.
It never re-emerged, is what. Still not sure why though- lack of traffic, etc perhaps?
It came back briefly and then
It came back briefly and then got slaughtered with spam I think.
Conatz nailed it. Some
Conatz nailed it. Some Russian porn stuff. I was actually able to view it after it was attacked. Then it infected my computer. Politics aside, tremendous amount if North American stuff lost
fwiw it all still exists
fwiw it all still exists somewhere on someone in anarkismo's either server or on a computer somewhere. just so folks know.
but basically it needs the right sort of people and the will to make it exist again.

We would happily host all of the text from it in the library, if someone wanted to put it in some usable format…
I clicked on the website and
I clicked on the website and it had information on "Julia and Julia" and "Ratatouille". Pretty weird. If only I had seen this thread.
Why does Anarkismo bother keeping a link to that site?
Hopefully this site will be
Hopefully this site will be back with us. I didn't know it existed.

This thread is five years old, I don't think it is coming back, although the data is probably still recoverable.

It was a good site, some good discussions. Totally different audience than libcom
The one area they were good
The one area they were good in was North America
Much more discussion by and for.
Obviously it was more platformist friendly and so you had that crowd as well
As this thread seems to be…
As this thread seems to be the only evidence the Anarchist Black Cat forums ever existed....thought I'd throw out some questions to jog someone's memory.
-Were the ABC forums officially linked to Anarkismo?
-They went down permanently due to spam?
-Weren't they split up between public forums and forums open to those who were in groups who either were signed onto Anarkismo or who were part of the 'Class Struggle Anarchist Conference' in North America?
-Were the ABC forums…
-Were the ABC forums officially linked to Anarkismo?
To my recollection, yes, althoughI'm not completely sure
Don't know the answer to your other questions though I'm afraid
I'll come back to this…
I'll come back to this.
Right quick: "Were the ABC forums officially linked to Anarkismo?" Yes and no. More again.

i remember it, and had the impression there was a platformist tendency.

Yes, in the sense that ABC was founded and administered by people who were members of Anarkismo associated groups. But that said, one didn't need to be either a Platformist or associated with Anarkismo project to use the general public facing ABC forums. All that was required to use the public forums was creating a user ID and adhering to the forum rules of conduct. However, there was indeed internal forums that were accessible only to those who had either signed onto the Anarkismo project or else were members of the various organizations associated with the North American 'Class Struggle Anarchist Conference'.
That part I don't know. Back around when the ABC forums first appeared, I signed up and begin using the public forums as a newcomer but within matter of months I signed onto the Anarkismo project and not long thereafter was granted access to some of the internal forums and moderator privileges on the public forums. I was very active on ABC for for around two years or so. I ultimately resigned as a mod on the ABC forums due to having to deal with an unrelated family health crisis.
Yes, as noted above.
