Reddebrek's PDF's

Submitted by Reddebrek on August 17, 2012

All right mates, I've been transferring political articles and pamphlets to my E-reader for awhile now in case I'm ever separated from my lap top, and since mine can't read word files that means converting them to PDF's. Anyway since I was doing this I noticed a lot of well done and lengthy articles on Libcom weren't available in PDF format (or were in the case of actual books, but from a very dodgy looking filesharing site) so I figured why not share?

I usually leave a comment with a link to the PDF in the relevant article, but thought it might be a good idea to collect them all here in a topic to save anyone interested from trawling the archives. So here we go, these are amateur but I've kept the formatting and images intact.

Here's the folder

Why Anti-National?

What future for Zimbabwe now? 1980

The third Revolution? Peasant Resistance to the Bolsheviks

The Folly of Voting

The English Working Class

SWP the Party of God

National Liberation and State Power an Anarchist Critique of the MPLA

Anti Imperialism and the Iranian Revolution

A People's History of the American Revolution

I also found this PDF of Socialist Songs if anyone wants it.

If you'd like to make your own PDF's and don't want to pay adobe then I recommend doPDF its free and easy to use.

I'll add other PDF's into other posts as and when I've made them. Hope you find these useful.

Hi, thanks for posting this. I have moved it into a more appropriate forum.

It is really helpful you doing this, however links on media fire won't last for ever. What would be really useful is if you attached these PDF files to the actual articles, so anyone can easily get them in future if they would rather read PDFs. To do this, just click the edit tab above the article, scroll down to "file attachments" and attach the PDFs. Then an editor will approve your change.

Thanks again!

Sorry I thought Community was the appropriate forum. I also didn't know you could add files through edits, I'll do that now. Though I think I'll still keep this thread as a sort of catalogue and reminder to me what I've already done.

Right here's the next batch. Also a few files are copies from personal blogs so I can't edit them, I've messaged the authors about them but they don't respond, so for them I'll just leave a comment with the link if they want it they can attach it themselves.

Anyway these three are related to the Wobblies

1938 Maytag Strike

The Sioux City Free Speech Fight

A Country Considered to be Free New Zealand and the IWW

no worries. The forum description of libcommunity is "Forum community, off-topic discussion, arguments and miscellaneous banter. If you want to hold a serious discussion, use one of the main forums above. "

I also didn't know you could add files through edits, I'll do that now.

Heres another batch,

Spartakism to National Bolshevism

Working Class Activity and Councils 1918-1923

1990: Worker Insurrection in Osaka

Anarchists and the Second Chechen War

I also have a few old documentaries some users might find interesting. Free are from a show called echo and are dripping with Western supierioty, but I still think are very interesting and rare glimpses into foreign nations like Afghanistan (1973) Algeria and Libya in the Seventies. You can download the files or watch them on my youtube

I also have a PBS investigation in Black September and the Palestine/Israel conflict. Its a very good documentary that has some very frank interviews with Palestinian militants and members of the defunct Jewish terrorist groups like the Stern gang.

Remember guys keep circulating the tapes.

Before I give you the latest batch I think it might be a good idea to give a brief outline of how I make these in case anyone else would find it useful. Its really simple to do but the problem with computers is it can take a hand holding to show how exactly its done.

Basically all I do is click and drag the mouse over the article title and hold it down till I reach the bottom of the article taking care not to highlight the stuff on the side. Then its literally just a case of copy and pasting into word, then saving the file. Then I open DoPDF browse for that file then click create and there you go.

The Birth of a Revolutionary Movement in Yugoslavia

The Mexican Revolution

China's Migrant Workers

A brief history of the Gay Liberation Front

Enjoy, and let me know if you have any problems making PDF's.

And again before I start I should say I made PDF's of most of the introduction pages, but I can't be arsed to list them off here, if you want them either go the pages themselves were hopefully they'll have an attachment or just browse the folder

Anarchism and Malcolm X

A Proletarian Critique of the Nation of Islam

The police the case against

Carlos (1923-2005)

Oh and some good news I've discovered a very simple way to convert PDF's into other ebook formats like epub and mobi, there's a website that does it for you simple upload the file like you would an image and it'll make a copy in another version.

http://ebook.online-convert.com/ The website should explain it all for you but if not feel free to ask.

The Secret Wars of the CIA

What is Nationalism?

What will it take to organise fast food?

Oh and I've got something extra for you, in addition to making PDF's I also make videos

And I've made a few videos about the IWW and another one about the Secret Wars of the CIA

Due to my current circumstances (stuck doing online part time work until I can find another permanent job) my ability to help organise has been non existent so I thought I might try my hand at online propaganda.

Just to say we really appreciate all the work you do on these. But please do attach these PDFs to the articles on libcom, and add the tag "PDFs". Then anyone who googles them will be able to use the PDFs. Whereas only a small number of people will be able to access them through this thread and mediafire files won't be online for that long!

Any articles you don't have permission to edit because of their input format if you post in the comments below then an admin can attach the file.

Cheers again!

I hate to suggest work to someone else, but if anyone could do what Reddebrek is doing but with EPUB or MOBI, so that the files are instantly usable on a Kindle, that would be amazing. Sure, anyone can do it on their own, but it takes time and is complicated with articles that are split into several parts.

we would love it if someone would take this on. You can do it really quickly using this website:
http://www.2epub.com/

for articles with multiple chapters, you can click "printable version" then copy and paste it into a Word document then convert it.

The only problem is it doesn't do chapter separation and footnotes properly but I don't know how to do that.

(In our help out section we do ask for volunteers to help with this)

There's a website I sometimes use that converts e-files into over e-files like PDF's to Mobi or vice versa. http://ebook.online-convert.com/ if you want you could download the PDF's then convert them into another file then attach it to the article as well.

Your welcome and technically the idea of pre-emptive strikes is so old it pre-dates Rome, the justification of the Third Punic War was that Carthage was in a sense rearming and violating diplomatic agreements and its military sanctions.

oh i know (i used to teach roman history), i was speaking about recent american history, the way the bush/yoo stuff was presented as a major new descent into unconstitutional illegality when they were putting into practice ideas that had been kicked about for decades.

Thank you, I'd been really busy and feeling like this wasn't really useful. But then I used the map feature on my work computer (libcom slips through the company blacklist) and saw how many people all over the world were reading even small articles. So I felt maybe this really is useful.

I created a torrent with all in, olus some stuff I got from Libcom. https://onebigtorrent.org/torrents/24506/Global-Radical-PDF-archive

hey, do you mean the map feature in our library? If so that doesn't show where users are browsing from that shows articles which have been geo-tagged (we have way more readers than articles on the map).

That said, we have had visits from North Korea, although that is one of the places with the fewest visitors (the only place with fewer is Vatican City!)
